The Program

The goal of BEQUAL is to ensure all girls and boys, especially those experiencing disadvantage, complete a quality basic education to achieve literacy, numeracy and other life skills. The program will address education policy, planning and coordination, increased child participation in and access to basic education, teacher education and improved school infrastructure.

Coffey through BEQUAL is seeking applications for two key specialist roles to join this significant and high performing education program.

The Position

The GEDSI Specialist will provide advice and assistance to the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) in support of its inclusive education objectives for all children in Laos. The Specialist will work collaboratively with MoES staff, other Government of Laos and NGO stakeholders and the BEQUAL international GEDSI Adviser. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the MoES to implement and monitor inclusive education practice at the central, school and classroom levels;
  • Support the MoES to develop, implement and monitor the inclusive education policy;
  • Work collaboratively with the BEQUAL team, including advisers, to ensure gender equality, disability and social inclusion are integrated effectively into all BEQUAL components;
  • Facilitate training and workshops for the BEQUAL team and MoES partners.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have qualifications in gender, disability and socially inclusive education or a related field and will have demonstrated experience in developing and implementing gender, disability and social inclusion related policies or programs. Experience collecting related data and writing evidenced based plans and report will be required, as well as experience preparing training and information materials. An understanding of the public sector and education system in Laos is also required for success and a demonstrated understanding of the Australian Aid Program’s Gender Strategy, Disability Strategy and other related policies will be an advantage.
