The Australian Government’s Fiji Program Support Facility announces the following opportunity:
- Based in Suva, Fiji (some travel may be required)
- Full time, 12 months with an option to extend
Australia’s Support to Fiji’s Education Sector is funded by the Australian Government and is managed by Coffey through the Fiji Program Support Facility. It is a five-year program, valued at up to AUD25 million, and focuses on systems strengthening, supporting the Fiji Government’s civil service reforms in the education sector, and will focus on literacy and numeracy, inclusive education, Fiji Education Management Information System (FEMIS), and teacher preparation and development.
The Program will contribute to the strategic priorities of the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts (MEHA) that support quality learning and teaching through targeted support including demand driven technical assistance, grants to support analytics and partnerships. The end of program outcome is ‘Central and decentralised systems and partnerships deliver the support to schools that enables all primary boys and girls to learn’. The Program has three pillars with the following foci:
Pillar 1 – Central systems enable schools to provide inclusive learning for all
Pillar 2 – District and school systems support teachers and all students learning
Pillar 3 – School communities contribute to inclusive and supportive school cultures.
The Literacy Coordinator will support MEHA in the roll out of Years one (1) to four (4) Literacy Strategies of the predecessor DFAT-funded education program whose goal was to improve the ability of the most disadvantaged students, including those with disabilities, to go to school, stay at school and have a quality education.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support Curriculum Officers in transferring knowledge of best practices in Literacy at district levels so that District Education Officers can coach Head teachers and teachers
- Provide technical support in the reviewing of the current Literacy training and teaching guides.
- Deliver high quality training to the untrained Head Teachers in monitoring and supporting Lower Primary teachers in Literacy
- Restructure the Years 1-4 Literacy training program to adapt to the current changes and reforms in the Ministry

The ideal candidate for this position must have a Degree in Education with a major in English or a relevant degree and will demonstrate considerable understanding of the Fiji development context, the general aid environment and local resources that can support gender equality and social inclusion in education.
